That's one expensive marathon

Got the hospital bill in the mail today right before I headed out for my first run since the whole marathon/hospitalization debacle. For some reason they didn't have my insurance information even though I gave it to a dozen different people. Anyways, if I didn't have insurance I would be royally screwed. 1 ER visit, 1 night, a gazzillion blood draws, lab tests for the grand total of...any guesses???

$7,277.75!

Almost had that heart attack they expected me to have in the hospital right in my kitchen. Sitting on the couch listening to the bill Jacob plainly stated "That was one expensive marathon" Yes, yes it was...Definitely calling Monday to get insurance thing straightened out.

So I ran for the first time in two weeks!!! Yeah! Just went out for 31 minutes. I can't ever stop at 0 or a 5. I'm weird I know. Legs felt like a rubber chicken and my body wasn't really comprehending what was going on. I'm not sure if it was because I haven't run in 2 weeks or because I ate Mexican food and drank some margaritas. Yeah I wasn't expecting on running today. Plus it was my celebratory "I survived Chicago 07" dinner. The food I was supposed to have after I finished the marathon but couldn't! So I took my just over 3 mile jaunt easy today. I am hoping to start feeling like my old runner self in about a week. There are a lot of holiday 5k and 10k's going on these next couple weekends so I would like to run 1 or 2 of those before I attempt the marathon part 1 take 2. That's what I'm going to call it, marathon part 1 take 2.

I've been to the ER before and it adds up incredibly fast. Thank God for that little insurance card. Anyway, I'm glad to hear you are running again. Marathon take 2 will be nothing like 1. Don't let the rubber legs fool you either... they'll be just fine.

Geez, health care costs are amazing. I'm glad you are alright. Hope you can continue to take it easy while you recover. I'm sure you are going to be back to those holiday races soon.

Thanks for the comment on Runner's Lounge. I'm anxious and excited for tomorrow. And, also a little anxious and excited for it to be over too.

Take care.

Insult to injury eh? Glad you got back to get a few miles in. :) Margs have been the cause of many of my torturous long runs. :)

Note to self: buy insurance before going to Viriginnia Beach.

Oh my goodness! I am glad you are alright, joking, and able to indulge in your post-marathon treats. I had a filet mignon at Gibson's and dipped it in bleu cheese. And lots of wine and bourbon. HA!

I am totally with ya for Marathon 1, Take 2. I am mapping out my plans right now too.

Hang in there!!!

Makes you wonder how people can ever survive without insurance. I had blood drawn and tested once ( we didn't know that the lab I was going to wasn't going to be covered by our insurance or something like that) Anyway, I find out after the fact and I was like "eeehhhh how bad can it be? It's only blood tests" Yeaahhhhhhhh, $600 out of pocket later later, I guess it was THAT bad.

I'm glad you're back at it!! You'll be back to your old self in no time chica!!

WOW! That is crazy! But, glad you are back out there. Take it slow to work your way back up. You don't want another hospital bill like that one!
