daily happenings

Overall a decent run today. Another 5 miles was on the schedule. I did an easy 5 1/4 mile with 1/2 mile cool down walk. I didn't even bother with the watch today. Just me, my ipod, and running shoes. And it was another beautiful day in the city. Had a close call on the running path. I wasn't paying attention, looking up ahead thinking about who knows what and I nearly tripped/twisted my ankle over a small piece of a broken tree. It woke me out of my running trance to remind me to be in the moment. Funny how most insignificant daily happenings have a larger effect on me.

Tonight I am headed out for dinner with my friend Jami. Yes, I have a friend with the same name and yes we very similar personalities. Weird I know. Plus, people who meet us together for the first time always think were messing with them. We are going to new bar - Fat Cat - in my hood. It has upscale bar food and a retro theme. I'm looking forward to a cold beer, good food, and good conversation with a friend I hardly see! Even though she is a non-runner she asks questions and lets me vent and talk about all things marathon. It is very nice of her and I am sure Jacob appreciates it! Plus, she is turning down a sort of family obligation to support me on race morning - so sweet! I am going to need all the help I can get.

Tomorrow is a rest day then Saturday morning is my second 20 mile run. I am getting knots in my stomach just thinking about it.

That's super sweet of your friend to come support you on race day!! Running can be . . .well, not so exciting if you don't run LOL so it's wonderful that you have such a great friend like that :-)

You'll do GREAT on Saturday!!

Good luck on your 20 miler. My husband had 3 other best friends with the same name. It was really weird - so just one other Jami is cool!

Running without a watch is one of the great indulgences of running. I don't do it nearly enough, but when I do it leaves me feeling more relaxed and better able to enjoy the run. You are really lucky to have a NRF who will let you talk about running and even acts interested. My wife and friends roll their collective eyes at me and make jokes when I talk about running. But maybe you have a better presentation than I do or something (or just nicer friends?).

Good luck on the 20 and don't stress. If it doesn't go well, just realize that maybe you had a bad day and continue on with your training.
Best of luck,
Bill

Running unattached is so fun! It's nice to check the watch and listen to the ipod, but there is nothing like just getting out without the electronics. Somehow feels more like fun and less like work...
