Today...Not So Good

Tonight's tempo run was a struggle mentally and physically from the minute I started.  My legs were heavy and I felt like this huge mass tromping along.  I ended up cutting my tempo part of the run down by a mile and even had to walk because I mentally could not to run another step.  Then I made a deal to only walk the remainder of the distance until I reached the next water fountain. After the fountain stop and a bit of stretching I was able to pick it back up again.  I actually ran the entire 8 miles I had planned and I came close to (though did not actually hit) my scheduled split times. Overall the run included more breaks and  feeling like garbage than is really necessary for a Wednesday run.

I haven't been sleeping well and have really pushed myself these past couple of weeks. Maybe it's all catching up with me or maybe it was just a bad day.  Whatever the reason I hope I was able to clear the "bad" run out of my system before this weekends last 20 miler.

Hi Jamie

First off, thank you so much for being supportive on my blog. I didn't want to sound like a whiner, but Boston '09 really kind of sucked. Just lucky to be there I guess....

Don't worry about one run where maybe you didn't have your best stuff. The important thing is you hung in there and got it done. A hard couple weeks and not sleeping well can certainly do it to you.

Best of luck with the upcoming 20!

We all have days like that. Hopefully that's your one "bad" and your weekend 20 miler will be great!

Hey Jamie, thanks for finding me. I totally understand. I always wondered why one day out of nohwere I have a killer run and feel on top of the world, then another (when I have done nothing different) I feel like I have shackles on. I don't get it, but when you figure it out - let me know whats up. Way to push through it and finish anyways.

Bummer about your run, but I'm sure you just needed to get a bad run out of your system before your 20-miler this weekend!

Ugh! I hate runs like that. I always tell myself I should be proud I finished the workout, even if it does feel like pulling teeth! Good luck on this weekend's long run! Whew, 20 miles still seems way too epic for me...

The best thing about a poopy run is that it's almost guarenteed to be followed up with an awesome run. Cheers to the awesome run to come!!

yep, as the others have said, hopefully it's out of your system now, and the long run will be great! It's those tough runs that help convince you that you're tough enough for anything :) Enjoy!

I am sure that everything is just catching up with you! I know the feeling...sometimes I feel like my body is a few days or weeks behind sometimes and I wont feel the effects of poor sleep until way later! Weird how that works! I hope things get better for you and you have a good weekend and a great run!
