Now my question for you guys. I am 16 weeks out and I haven't really had a chance to get on schedule yet thanks to life happening. Should I scratch this weeks long run and start fresh and clean on Monday? Or if I am feeling better Monday just move the run to then and re-arrange the rest of the week around? If I improve over the day today I may try to head out this evening and see how I feel.

Summer Colds and Running Do Not Mix
My sore throat became a full blown head cold. Summer colds are absolutely no fun. I wish I had an audio clip so you could all hear how funny my voice sounds right now. Since I can't breath very well or stop coughing up a lung without the assistance of multiple over the counter meds running is not a smart option. I did go for an easy 5 on Friday when I only had sinus pressure and everything went fine during the run. However, after showering I had a worsening of all these fun symptoms including the worst ear pressure/pain I have ever experienced. There could be no relation between the run and worsening but I don't want to make this any worse than it is, especially since I am traveling on Monday.

If it were me, and I had 16 weeks left, I would let the missed workouts go. Jump back into the schedule when you're feeling better. Rest is important right now, especially if you have a chest cold. And... I believe your run could have made things worse if your symptoms were below the neck. Be careful, and take care of yourself!
IMHO, I say REST! Get better, and than get running! Good luck and get better soon!
Yeah. I say rest. This is actually good. Get the respiratory infection out of the way now. Chances are you won't be sick the week of the race..........I think.
I would say just let things go for now since you still have 16 weeks to go. Its not worth staying sick longer by working yourself too much! Hope you feel better - I know colds totally do suck!
I have nothing different than the others... get some rest. Your body obviously needs it. If you run, potentially getting worse, and you're out for longer, just scratch the run, don't feel bad about it, and feel better.
Since you're 16 weeks out, I would rest and let it go. It's hard to, but it will be better in the long run.
I hope you feel better soon!
Start fresh and clean!!
Rest will definitely make your training go better when your feeling 100%!!!
I hope you feel better really fast!!!
I agree, rest. You have a great base this year already, it won't hurt to get better first.
I would skip this weeks long run. You have plenty of time to make up for it. Plus, a quality run is better than one you suffer through! give your body some time to rest and fully recover.
I would say REST UP and start your program healthy. Get well soon!
Broken record: REST! You have plenty of time girl. Your still in great shape and can pick up where you left off once your feeling better.
oh no!! i hope you feel better very soon!!! lots of rest girlie.
Get better than ATTACK. But seriously, get healthy. :( Summer time is supposed to be fun time, not sick time.
My suggestion is to rest up. A missed long run will not hurt you. But you might get worse if you try to run and don't let yourself have a chance to recover from the cold. Looks like that's what everyone else said ;) Feel better!
I'd say take it easy. You have plenty of time to make up the running when you are healthy.
Hi Jamie
I know I'm late with the advice, but I would take it easy on yourself at this point in the training. You have plenty of time and you have a great base of fitness that you already have in place.
Get better and then full steam ahead!
Rest is so important. I'd hate to let that unhealthy linger. Get well soon. 16 weeks is still a ways out.
