and 6 days later...

Saturday morning, after 6 days of eating and drinking without regard and no exercise, I decided it was time to hit the running path. I like taking a week off after marathons to physically and mentally recoup. The week off gives me time to reflect on and appreciate all that I went through in training and race day. The week away from my shoes and the road also allows my body to heal. So after 6 days I laced up the shoes and hit the road naked (without my garmin). It felt strange to leave it at home, I had this feeling of forgetting something, but it is good to do every now and again. The plan as I walked out the door was for about 4 miles. I was feeling so good at the turnaround I decided to make it 5 instead. No idea and nor do I care what my time was - it was 5 wonderfully muggy miles!

It was good to get out there this morning especially since I have another race in a week! Yes, that's right, silly me signed up for a 10 miler 13 days post marathon. What was I thinking??? Well, the race was about to sell out and I got excited about the race knowing that a friend was already signed up to attempt this mileage for the first time. I figured I could take it easy race day; to just run to experience finishing on the 50 yard line and enjoy a day out there with friends. Although, I'm not sure that is what will end up happening on the 29th. I have a preferred corral because of my past participation so that may mean not as much bump and weave through the early miles which may make it difficult for me to take it easy :) We shall see!

No. You like taking a week off after marathons to drink and eat!

I can't fault you really. Don't we all do the same?! ;)

Glad you had a nice recovery week and a nice run today. I had to run this week - my *ahem* hormonal state required it.

Good luck at the race next weekend.

Easy peasy recovery week! That's the best! Oh and I totally think you will race the 10 miler and be awesome. You've got that marathon fitness already so running the shorter races will be a piece of cake. Enjoy your time off!

Ahhh yes, the mental break has been nice. I definitely need to get back to my usual eating routine. All the junk is starting to make me feel extremely sluggish and my run today was more of a slog!

I didn't know you were running Soldier Field! Yay!

I loved this! I do the same after a marathon- take a week to sit and eat! Now, the run in humidity? Those kill, don't they? I am glad to hear your first run back was good though!

smart woman taking a little time off to regroup and then coming back to just running, not training!

I wish we could've spent the week post-marathon eating and drinking together. Isntead I had to do it alone. Luckily for me the food and bevs tasted just as good. ;)

Hi Jamie,
Thanks for coming by my blog...I just read your race report. Congrats on getting through a tough one, that's an awesome time!
Enjoy your race next weekend. Myself, I run my first half-marathon next Sunday and I'm a little worried because the weather is expected to be hot and humid (we're talking high 80's)!! Yikes.

Hi Jamie

Congrats on Cleveland and I think 4:07 is an excellent time! I have done Cleveland only once, but it is definitely on my list to do again. BTW, it is truly hard to believe how FAR 26.2 miles really can feel on race day. You just can't really prepare for it.

Best of luck with your upcoming 10 miler and YES you are crazy. Sounds like something I would do..

Hi Jamie! Thank you so much for visiting my blog :)

Congrats on your marathon! I'm so impressed with your time. You put so much hard work in to it and I really enjoyed reading your race report. I don't fault you for the mental blocks along the way, I think it would be hard for most to not come across some sort of mental defeat throughout a distance like that. I'm looking forward to hearing about your next run!

My lunars are the first pair of Nike's I've bought to run in. My previous two pair of shoes were both New Balance. I'm having a slight fit problem with the right shoe right now, but naturally for me that is my smaller foot. I'm hoping the break-in period will fix that. I ran 7 in them today and only had a little rubbing on the right heel, so I'm hopeful. I'm looking forward to keeping up with what you've got going on!
