What a difference 7 days makes

It's amazing how much better a long run can go when you don't drink a bottle of wine the night before.  Brilliant I know :) What a difference this weeks 19 was from last weekends 17.  It was cool but sunny, perfect for a run!  My legs felt great and the general leg achy pain didn't set in until miles 11/12.  I experimented taking the GUs a 1/2 mile sooner than I had been and it seemed to work out a lot better for me.  Although I don't know what it is but in the middle of the first gu stop I feel as I am going to regurgitate, it passes, then I'm fine. I never had this happen while training for the first 2 marathons.  Weird and kind of gross.  Except for that I was able to average a 9:50 min/mile over the 19.  Part of this is I'm am also walking while taking Gu as I'm not talented enough during the actual race to keep running while drinking out of the cups and take a gu.  Unless they start providing sippy cups I need to practice walking during my runs :)  So the time is not as great as in the past but I'm getting there!

See, that's why I'll probably always be wearing a FB LMAO! I'm also not coordinated enough to handle gels plus a cup hehe.

Great job on the 19! I feel the same way after eating the first shot blok.

Happy birthday too.

Great job on 19! It's definitely tricky to drink/eat while running, much less racing. My strategy is trying to do only one of those at a time...so I'll take a quarter mile just to get the gu out of my pocket...another quarter mile to actually open the packet...and each a quarter packet every quarter mile...until it's all gone and then take my water...I repeat the process on each LSD until I can do each of the steps a little quicker...anyway, that's just my way of handling fluids/gels.

congrats on your run!

I can't drink or eat while running either! I actually think that walking during the race to eat/drink is a better idea that way you dont get too frazzled when you cant drink and run at the same time! great job on the run! Have a good week!

Great job! One of the races I did last year had cups with lids and straws. It was a wonderful idea since it allowed you to run and drink at the same time.

Nice long run! I can't deal with the gels at all. The consistency of it is just yucky to me.

HI Jamie

Look at you cranking out the high mileage!

I have to be honest with you... the day I have to give up wine because I am a runner is the day I become an EX runner. Seriously, I make sacrifices to run, but I'm not going to give up everything. Wine is a deal breaker for me.

The only way I can ever get a GU down is to slurp/swallow quickly then some water, gatorade or whatever.
