more of the same

I still haven't found any motivation to hit up the roads so far this winter. Nearly every run last week happened on the treadmill. 36 miles on a treadmill... I never thought I would say that! The only miles I managed outside were the first 11 of 19 miles on Sunday. I had every intention of running the full distance in the 15 degree windchill but I didn't take into account how much ice there would be after Saturday's snow. There was too many patches and as the sun started to go down I got nervous and started seeing myself breaking bones seeing as I'm a huge klutz so I turned around. I came home, changed, and headed to the gym to finish up. I typically don't like to break up super long runs but it was necessary on Sunday. Safety first!

This week has started out much the same because it hurts to be outside too long right now. Needless to say the treadmill next to the emergency exit at the World Gym and I are becoming intimately close. The temps should be making their way back into the 30's so I hope to get back outside sometime this week. I need to get back outside for my sanity and the fact that I'm running out of TV shows to watch on my phone! Commercial free helps when in the middle of a 10+ mile treadmill run. I caught up on the cheesetastic but equally addicting Vampire Diaries and I'm nearly done with the 2nd season of Fringe and there are few shows left on my phone I haven't watched after I get caught up on season 3 :)

Is your winter running off to a good start? Are you BFF's with your treadmill or braving the cold?

bones intact > running outside ;)

i only went for a run outside today because all the sidewalks we cleared, but the roads we hell to navigate. berms that turn into solid ice masses are not cool.

i hate the treadmill but i have no choice but to utilize it since i dont feel safe running when its dark and cant see ice patches.

good job on completing all those miles!

winters here in Oregon are pretty mild so I get a fair share of running outside but I love going to the gym to get on the treadmill too! Good job on your miles!

I've been on the mill more than I'd like too but with how icy it's been, it's hard to even maintain a decent pace outside. I think it's perfectly fine you're inside. Mileage is mileage right?

We have been hit with tons of lake effect snow here so I have been staying off the roads just because it isn't safe. Plus the treadmill is easier when I am only going a mile or so because of my knee. I know by Christmas I will be running outside and I can't wait!

I've been on the t-mill a few times, but mostly I have been able to handle the elements. It helps having company for Wednesday medium-long and Sunday long-runs (my training group). Otherwise, I would be inside WAY more!

I'm wishing I had a 'mill. My elliptical and I are BFF's but it isn't the same as running.

I am DEFINITELY BFF's with my dreadmill. Although in Colorado people are crazy, and the trail running group thinks nothing of heading out in 0 degree freezing rain in the dark, so I guess I have just been "womaning up" so I don't seem like a noob. :)

I go to the gym during the work week - I don't like the dark - and outside on the weekends.

Now that is dedication, well done! Hope you get some outside running time soon! Enjoy the weekend!

I have a gym membership so you would think that in the last two weeks I would have gone there to run since it was super cold out. No. Instead I just didn't run. Decision FAIL.

wow--36 miles on the treadmill!!? impressive! i remember when i used to do lots of treadmill running in chicago--you're so right about the ice patches; that's the real danger. glad to hear the temps are going up a bit (at least for a day or two).

I'm treadmilling it until January. Full marathon training starts in Jan for me, and there will be plenty of long outdoor runs in ice/snow/cold, etc. So I'm giving myself a break for the next few weeks!

36 miles on a treadmill is impressive! I too am one for watching shows on my phone (yay for no commercials!), but I find it easier on an elliptical than the treadmill.
