Constantly Leaving on Jet Planes

July is turning into a crazy travel month. I returned to Chicago from Ohio Sunday night for a full 16 hours before leaving for Birmingham, Alabama. I am only home for 1 day this week. Yikes!

So running... Yes, I am supposed to be in training. This time around my heart hasn't been in it as much and life is happening to get in the way as it tends to do! Last Friday I did miraculously woke early with every intention of running 14 miles. 4 miles into the run I was really struggling mentally and feeling physically sluggish. I realized that thanks to my morning lolly gagging I would not be back in time for my morning teleconference. At this point I made the decision to knock it down to 12. At the turnaround I realized my hip and my attitude were not going to get me to 12. Around 9 miles I called my husband and asked him to come get me at the 10 mile mark. Yes I may have run 10 miles but it was not my best showing. I was really disappointed with myself but glad I got something done before catching my flight home. As usual no running happened over the weekend in Ohio.

Sunday night I realized this week is 12 weeks until Chicago. Wow!!! Were does time go? I had a feeling life would get in the way of the longer plan so I already had plans to switch to the 12 week Pfitz plan. Monday kicked off with 8 miles with a 10 x 100m. I was able to get it done before my flight but I had only 30 minutes to shower, get ready, find some lunch (I've been absolutely famished lately! I've nicknamed the my stomach noises the terdactyl), and finish packing, before leaving for the airport! It was close but I made it!

I've definitely had those runs before. The runs that just don't seem to come together. And, I don't mean "the runs." ;) Haha! It happens to all of us. Don't be too hard on yourself. Just gear up for the next one.

I don't know how you can deal with all the travelling. Hang in there, the running will get better.

I think you've been doing great with your training considering all the time you spend traveling. I've said it before, but I could never do it!

Wow - 12 weeks!

getting in all those miles while traveling is an accomplishment in itself! And yes, life has a way of complicating things. Stay positive, you're doing well :)

I've traveled in back to back weeks, and I don't know how you do it. I HATE having my schedule disrupted like this.

I feel your pain, home-skillet. I'm training for Marine Corps, which is about 2 or 3 weeks after Chicago, and life is just BUSY! I envy people with 9-5 jobs who can train on a regular schedule. As far as the crappy run, just know that ya can't run at your peak all the time. If you didn't have bad runs, you wouldn't appreciate your good runs......or something like that. Shit, just kill a bottle of wine with your husband, and it'll be all right.

good luck with everything! I hope things settle down for you soon so you can get training and feeling better on your runs!

Sometimes life is busy, I agree with Rodney! Good for you for trying to get any kind of run (good or bad) in when you can!

hahah so random about the pterodactyl reference. I was just saying the other day that I want to make a shirt that says P is for pterodactyl b/c I think it's funny. A+ for random comment today, sorry. :)

It is inspiring that you are so busy and still working hard to get the training in! Your schedule sounds crazy!

I can't imagine traveling that much and managing any running.

Good job getting the Monday training run in!

That's total craziness, dude. Good luck and hopefully the travel-packed schedule calms down soon.

Hi Jamie

Life always seems to get in the way of our running and that is certainly the case for you at the moment. But it won't always be that way and better now with 12 weeks of prep before the big day.

In the meantime, take care of yourself and best of luck!
