running and cheese fries don't mix

I really need to pay better attention to my training schedule. That, or just stop eating cheese fries at lunch. The yummy fries combined with little sleep thanks to a 20 hour travel day (to LA and back) yesterday made for one crappy feeling run. The plan had called for 4 miles at 1/2 marathon race pace and 1 mile at 10K race pace with a warm up and cool down. I managed the warm-up, 2 miles at 1/2 marathon race pace and 1 mile at 10K race pace with an extensive cool down and then I gave up and walked the last 800 home. The times were where I needed them to be but I so wasn't feeling it mentally or physically. I started to really get down on myself somewhere around mile 3 because my legs felt heavy, I was uncomfortably full, and feeling slow - like this should be a lot easier. In order to finish I had to remind myself that days like this will happen BUT it doesn't mean this one day will ruin my entire training.

After the fact this run reminded me why I have kept running after starting 8 years ago. There are good days, bad days, and incredibly amazing days but very rarely are 2 runs ever the same. This thing called running may get easier some respect but it continually challenges (and punishes!) me. What can I say? I love a good challenge.

So for now, I can't stop long travel days from happening but I should probably take it easy on the cheese fries... at least before the run ;)

I think that we all go through this. :) I'm happy to see that you can look at this as just 'one of those days', and move on. We often get stuck on the negative (especially when we're slowly walking home for the cooldown), but no regrets. You leave the pain and misery out on the road to be washed or swept away.

And yeah, cheese fries + travel + run = hell. :P

Just the thought of cheese fries and then trying to go for a run makes me feel queasy.

I completely understand where you are coming from. Last week was my bad running week. Hopefully your next run will be that awesome run.

Mmmmmm.....cheese fries. :-)

Running for the challenge of it, I do the same thing. The more I accomplish and improve, the better I feel. Mentally and physically. :-)

i read your title before clicking and I said to myself...WHAT...WHY NOT?! maybe its the sleep thats the issue, not the fries ;)

i agree that no two runs are the same. no matter how hard i try to recreate the same circumstances for stellar runs, sometime, there are forces of nature that are just out of my control...oh well. but hey at least you were able to get out there and go for a run.

I have found a few things that don't sit well on a run. Great job at least getting out there for a run after such hectic traveling.

Hah! Yea, cheese fries and running definitely don't mix.

We all have the good days and the bad days. If all of our runs were the same, we'd be super bored!
