No Excuses

Call tonight to the hubs on the way home from the airport... approximately 5:30pm

Me: I'm thinking of going for a short, quick run before dinner, is that okay?
Hubs: It's dark outside
Me: I can see that but the path is well lit
Hubs: It's cold and crappy
Me: I've run in worse
Hubs: yeah, I guess
Me: at least it's not raining!
Hubs: (big sigh implying I will never understand you and your running thing) okay

Poor guy all he wanted to do was get some dinner and I shot down all his reasons why I shouldn't go for a run. Unfortunately for him all I wanted to do was run after my long day of sitting. I sat so much today from the research office, to the airport, to the airplane, and in the car in traffic that my butt start to ache! I had to get moving. Plus instead of waking up early (like all you other good bloggers!) I re-set the alarm for an extra 50 minutes of sleep this morning and was feeling ultra guilty. Normally I don't run after working and traveling all day long; I'm too spent. Today, I lucked out in catching an earlier flight home and finding some energy.

I walked in the back door before 6, quickly changed, and headed out the front door sans garmin by 6. Before I even made it to the path I ran into some neighborhood hoodlums who were looking for trouble. They started to harass me but for whatever reason they took off and I made it by without much incident. A bit of a scary way to start. Once on the path there were a number of bikers and runners and I quickly found my groove. Not quite 4 miles later I was back home with a newfound energy! Ahhh - much better!

Wow! You are my hero! And brave to boot, be careful with hoodlums running around. Do you keep mace handy? I know it won't gaurantee your safety, but at least it's something.

umm, i wasn't one of the good bloggers you pointed out who woke up early. Nope. wasn't me. lol. Good for you though! There are just days when you need to move. :) Glad you didn't get more trouble with those kids, can be scary!

My hubby is not thrilled when I run at the end of the day either. I can't always motivate myself in the morning. I think he's starting to realize how much better the rest of the night goes if I just get my run in!

Good for you and scary! I had a very similar conversation last night, the hubs telling me it was raining and cold and couldn't I just skip it. He almost talked me into it but I'm so glad I went out. It wasn't that cold and the rain felt good!

I love a good run at the end of a long day. Kudos to hubby for accepting, even if he doesn't quite understand. :)

Glad the neighborhood hoodlums didn't really give you any trouble.

I was out at 7 last night :) Hubby & I have had the same converstations, but since he leaves when its dark and gets home when its dark I only get to run in the dark. I have yet to get harassed, but I do get some not-so-friendly looks. Makes me wish I was faster - there is no way I could outrun a bad guy :(

wtf was up with the hoodlums? where they punk kids? Maybe you should carry some mace or something next time you head out.

I'm glad you found the energy after a long day of traveling. Your my hero!

Good for you! Sometimes you just have to get out there, because you know it'll do you good.

Scary about the hoodlums! But perhaps they provided an extra rush of adrenaline to run on?!

Way to go on running after work. Even if i just go to work i feel drained after the day is finished so I think thats why i like to run in the mornings cause i feel fresher!

Oh man, if someone wouldve given me all those reasons NOT to run, I def would've taken them up on it. :p sucky about the hoodlums that would've scared me for sure. :(

I totally understand where you are coming from. There are some days where you just NEED a good run and nothing else will do. Poor hubs. :)

poor david has been shafted for dinner more than once by my desire to run...the cool thing is he might be annoyed at the time, but he's so proud later
